Sustainability
Mining changes the land and the lives around it. We plan for people, water and land from the start of every project to its end.
Our commitments
These commitments shape how we plan, operate and report at every site.
Water
In a dry country, water belongs first to people and livestock. We plan every operation to use as little as possible, recycle what we can and never compete with the wells and berkads that communities rely on.
We monitor water around our sites before, during and after our work, and we share the results with the communities nearby.
Grievance mechanism
If our work affects you, your family, your land or your animals, we want to know. Anyone can raise a concern, free of charge, in Somali or English, and you can ask us to keep your name confidential.
Speak to our community liaison team at one of our site offices, call them or send an email.
We log your concern and confirm that we have received it within [5] working days.
We investigate, talk with you about what we find and agree what happens next.
You receive our answer within [10] working days. If you are not satisfied, you can ask for a review by [senior manager or independent party].
We will publish a yearly sustainability report covering safety, environment, community and governance. [Link to the latest report once it is published.]
We are glad to talk with communities, partners and researchers about how we work.
